This blog is all about pets. It's a pet sitter's diary, a collection of observations, experiences and wisdom about pets. I will discuss ideas that have helped me and others with pet issues such as behavior, housebreaking, health, hygiene, food allergies, separation anxiety, illness/disease, incontinence and others. It's also a place for dog and cat lovers to share ideas and experiences. Please feel free to send suggestions/topics of interest. I'm always eager to hear from my readers.
About me
Hello, pet lovers. My name is Aurora Bloom and I live in suburban Columbus, Ohio. I've been a pet lover for over 50 years!
I've had pets (dogs, cats, birds, fish) all my life. I love all animals, but dogs are my favorite. I've had more than a dozen dogs over my lifetime. Anything about dogs, I love. I even learn from them. They can teach us a lot!
In 1999 I started a pet sitting business called Mother and Daughter Pet Sitting. I go to clients' homes to take care of their pets when they're away. In addition to walking the clients' dogs and giving them food and water, I also give oral meds and administer insulin and other injections and IV fluids.
Before moving to Ohio, I lived in Florida, where I volunteered at a veterinary hospital for several years. While there, I observed and assisted the vet and his staff in many clinical aspects of the practice, including in the examining room, with surgery (observed only) and in the lab. In the OR, I observed neutering, tumor removal, orthopedic, oncology, teeth cleaning, necropsy and euthanasia procedures. I also assisted in the examining room by reading charts and preparing injections for the vet, drawing blood and comforting clients in crisis situations. In the lab, I examined blood, urine and stool samples under a microscope looking for worms and other parasites.
I gained a tremendous amount of knowledge during my years volunteering at the veterinary hospital. This knowledge helps me in my daily interactions with my own pets as well as with my clients' pets. Now I hope to share my knowledge and experience with my readers.
More recently, in Ohio, I have fostered dogs for rescue groups. Many of these dogs have been abused or neglected and I love being able to start them out on a new life in a loving home.
